TRYING SOME TIRES CONCLUSION

And The Verdict Is...

So after trying the Continental Trail Kings against the Maxxis Minions I have finally come to my opinion on which tire is the best in regards to all mountain/ single track riding. While I think out of the box both tires seemed comparable, I have to give it to the Minions. There are two main reasons for coming to this conclusion. One was that while I did not do an extremely rigid test as to exact miles, the Minions clearly did wear down much slower, especially on the back tire. The second reason for my decision was that from the get go, just looking at the Minions they seemed more aggressive in the tread, and while it’s said not to judge a book by its cover, the story I got with the Minions convinced me that they could grab the trails much better.

I will say as a side note that I may have drawn different conclusions if the Trail Kings at least excelled better when in more of a hybrid situation, but they just did not because they are not made for the road. Another thing that I noticed was that the side walls of the Minions seemed much more pliable for low air riding and offered much more puncture resistance. So all that said, if there was a sale on the Trail Kings I wouldn’t hold it against anyone for getting them over the Minions because they are in fact a good tire. But… even for an extra 20$ each for the Minions, if you are looking for the meanest mud slingers, they are the best off road tires I have ever used. I would even go so far as to say they remind me of the tires on my dirt bike. I'll even admit that I went into the test biased towards the Trail Kings, mostly because I invested my money into them. My Minions are 26” so I can’t use them anymore since I have switched to 29ers, meaning that I am already considering buying some new Minions for my upgraded rims, and giving the Trail Kings away.

Is this what you came to read! Are you not entertained!
